Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt, the current favorite to win the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, suffered an apparent injury during the fourth quarter of his team's game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (December 15).
Watt, 30, went down with 4:43 remaining in the fourth quarter and appeared to be limping in pain before going down to the field and clutching his lower left leg. The All-Pro pass rusher received attention on the Steelers' sideline as the Eagles' offensive drive continued, but reportedly walked off the field on his own, according to FOX Sports play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt, prior to going to the team's locker room for additional medical attention.
Watt, who previously won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021, recorded seven tackles, two sacks and one tackle for loss during Sunday's game, recording double-digit sacks for the sixth season of his eight-year NFL career. The former Wisconsin standout was listed as having -200 odds to win the 2024 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award, according to Caesars Sportsbook.
Watt currently has 54 tackles, 11.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss through his first 14 games of the 2024 NFL season.
