As for how they got started….the legend says an Irish Chef invented them back in 1853. A wealthy customer at his restaurant ordered fried potatoes, but kept sending them back to the kitchen, claiming they were too thick and soggy. So the chef went to the extreme….he cut them as thin as possible so the rich guy had to eat them with his fingers. Well…the rich guy liked them…so they put it on the menu.
Personally, I actually bought a microwave potato chip maker. Unfortunately when slicing the potato, I sliced my finger pretty good. So I don’t’ make them as much any more.
