I received a gift card for my birthday the other day, and since I'm a big Star Wars fan, I decided to get a Death Star Ice Mold.
When I get a gift card from someone, I try to get something I might not normally buy myself....so it really is a present.
I was looking around on Star Wars day for something to buy to celebrate May the 4th, and saw the Death Star Ice Mold. I figured it would work well in an rocks glass with some Irish Whiskey.
What I didn't know....was that there's a trick to getting a CLEAR ice cube. With my first attempt, you couldn't tell it was a death star because of the white coloring.
So, with some internet searching, I found out that you have to used distilled water, and then BOIL it before putting it into the ice maker if you want it clear.
Here's how my 2nd attempt looked
I was quite happy with how it turned out. It takes a little more effort, but it's worth it. I just put the water in a coffee cup in the microwave for 3 minutes, then transferred it to the mold.

The two-pack was under 10 bucks. I also found that it works well with my water glass.
As you might expect, since I'm a big Star Wars fan, i've already booked my tickets for the Han Solo Movie opening on Friday. I hope it's good!
