DayTrip to San Jacinto Monument/Battleship & more!

On Saturday, I decided to take a daytrip to the La Porte area.   The first place I stopped was the San Jacinto Monument, the site of the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836.

If you remember Saturday was the day we had strong winds....well they were quite strong down southeast of Houston as well.   The good news was that I think the wind kept some people away, so it wasn't very crowded.

I went up to the observation area....towards the top of the tower. (which is almost 570 ft tall).  Thankfully you don't take stairs up....you take an elevator.

Nearby the monument, is Battleship Texas.

The ship was launched back in 1912 and was decommissioned in 1948.

I paid to take a self guided tour of the ship.  Its amazing how big it was....but also how many people had to live on it for months at a time.

Some places you could see "Last inspected" signs...which would say some date in the 40s.

If you're ever in the area, I would highly recommend you explore the battleship.  Although since it was SOOO windy that day being on deck was challenging...I had to hold my hat so to not lose it.

After visiting the monument and the battleship, I was kinda thirsty (note you can't have any beverages on the battleship)....so I went to the Brigadoon Brewery

If the name sounds familiar, it's because it's the brewery you can go to at the Texas Renaissance Festival.  BUT...they now have another location that you can go to when the RenFest isn't going.

They are open most Fridays & Saturdays.

HEAD HERE if you want to find out more about the brewery

I tried their Shandy, 90 shilling and Black Plague....all were quite tasty!  Another highly recommend place!

All and all it was a fun daytrip....ended up driving 250+ miles that day.

Another thing I did over the weekend was to stay up and attempt to take pictures of the Super Blood Wolf Moon.   Since it only happens 3 times this century, I figured it was worth the effort.

I used a tripod to get the following pictures.  (Since the moon was so high in the sky, I had to lie down on the pavement in order to get it in the frame)

Hope you had a good weekend!    I know I did....Day trip on Saturday....2 OT NFL playoff games and special Moon on Sunday.....yeah it was fun.

K.C.-ya!
