On Saturday, I decided to make a road trip to Austin to check out one of the best BBQ places in Texas, Interstellar BBQ. A few years back Texas Monthly rated them #1, but in the latest they were listed at #6. Because of that drop, I was hoping it wouldn't be too packed. I ended up getting there a little over an hour before they opened, and was about 26th in line.
While my friend was waiting in line, I walked over to Sleepwalker Brewing Company...they're a brewery that also sells coffee, so I was able to try a new beer while waiting for my BBQ meal.
I ended up getting quite a bit of food because I wanted to try different things, (and have lunch for the next couple of days)
The Sausage was good, the Brisket was ok to really good. They didn't give you a choice of moist or not. I really liked the moist brisket, but the other ones were just ok. So it was a mixed bag. The Peach Tea Pork Belly was excellent, as was the smoked scalloped potatoes.
All in all a good BBQ experience at Interstellar BBQ but not my favorite overall. That's likely Snows BBQ.
After that we found another brewpub I hadn't been to before, Hop Squad
The beers were ok, but it is in a nice location if you enjoy soccer, as it's right next to the Austin FC stadium.
Before we drove back to B/CS, we made a stop at Fierce Whiskers distillery, my favorite distillery in Austin.
And, to go with the theme, I had a BBQ Drink....the Si Baby Too, it's a Brisket washed bourbon, with mesquite bean syrup, Umami Tincture, Orange Bitters with a pork jerky.
It was like a BBQ Old Fashion, very tasty.
It was a fun trip out of town. Not something I can afford to do every weekend, but every couple of months it's nice to do something.
K.C.-ya!
