K.C.'s Vacation to Lake Placid, NY

Last week, my family did a reunion in Lake Placid New York!

Lake Placid, is where the 1932 and 1980 Olympic games took place. And the 1980 Olympics are best remembered for the USA win over Russia in Hockey. I took a visit to the museum and the hockey arena

The Olympics museum was cool, because it not only had stuff from the 1932/1980 Olympics, but had Medals and torches from other Olympics. They also had a couple of interactive exhibits, like a Ski Jump (where you looked into googles simulating a ski Jump, as well has a bobsled simulator (no movement though)

They, of course had lots of Olympics items around the museum

Right next to the 1980 Olympics hockey rink, is the 1932 ice rink, and we got to try an Olympic sport there one night...curling!

It was fun to try. They had us only doing HALF the distance, and it was difficult to judge the speed. I kept racing on through the target (the house as they call it).

When I did send the Stone down the ice, I did some sweeping, a couple times with 2 brooms!

Another Olympic site we went to was the Ski Jump area.

Since it was summer, there wasn't snow, but apparently they CAN practice on the fake grass substance. We ended up taking a gondola part way up, then an elevator to the top of the ski jump. Unfortunately the view from the top was closed off.

In fact, the Bobsled area (different location) was closed off due to construction. (there's talk that the next Olympic city may not be ready in time, so Lake PLacid is a back up possiblity)

We also took a gondola up to LIttle Whiteface, where the Ski slopes are, and then took a scenic drive up to Whiteface. (more ski slopes).

Whiteface was interesting because after the drive, you could either hike up, or walk inside 200 foot tunnel to an elevator.

Here's a view to from the top, looking at the actual Lake Placid. (nope, didn't see an alligator)

Oh...by the way, on the way to Lake Placid from Texas, we had a layover in Charlotte, where Sammy Hagar has a new bar.

Unfortunately our layover wasn't long enough for me to get a beverage.

Thanks for reading today's vacation report, I'll have more tomorrow on other things we did.

K.C.-ya!
