Over the weekend, my friends and I took a day trip to Spring, Texas. The Main reason we went there was to try out a top rated BBQ joint
It's a Michelin star BBQ joint, that's also in the top 50 of Texas Monthly's BBQ list, so we decided to get up early on Saturday to get there in plenty time....and we did!
We go there around 8:40am, and were 12th in line. Thankfully the first 26 groups in line get a number, and then can come back (since they didn't open until 11am). What did we do for 2+ hours?, well we walked downtown (a block away) for a bit, but most things weren't open until 10a, so it was mostly just looking into windows. Eventually we found a coffee shop, "Trilogy Brew". which had some fun names for their beverages. I got a Chai-Bacca, which was tasty!
Eventually we went back to Corkscrew BBQ and waited, and finally they opened their doors, and we were able to get inline and wait.
What did I get? My usual, Brisket and sausage (my favorites from BBQ Joints)
My friends got the ribs and turkey as well, so I was able to taste them.
We all liked the Brisket the best. Their BBQ sauce and Smoked beans were also quite tasty. The rest was good, but not great.
I ended up getting extra brisket, so I could have some lunch today (looking forward to that).
Now, when I plan a trip to a BBQ joint, I try to schedule other things to do AFTER the food, since we are in the area. One thing I found near Corkscrew BBQ was Game Preserve. You pay a flat fee, and can play all the video games and pinball you want.
I used to go to arcades as a kid, so it was fun to play some of the old video games, like Dragon's Lair.
Of course I played pinball machines. They didn't have any of the ones I used to play alot, but they did have a Lord of the Rings, Ghostbuster and Iron Maiden pinball machine
Another game I played a few times, was NBA Jams. I used to play that at Duddley's several nights back in the day...
I was surprised at how bad I was at some of the games....I played Super Punchout, and couldn't even beat the first guy
My best games, were Dig Dug, and a racing game that I played and got 1st place
All and all a nice trip down memory lane playing the old games. )Moon Patrol, Joust, Track and Field, (too many to list them all).
We finished our daytrip with a visit to a brewery that i hadn't been to, Mad Llama
We happened to get there while they were having a "Christmas in July" celebration, so several people were dressed up in xmas gear, and they had xmas music playing and xmas movies on the wall.
I got a sampler of 4 of their beers, and oddly enough on the Christmas celebration day, my favorite was one they had on the 4th of July. A Red, White and Blueberry beer. If a fruit beer is done well it's good, but it's not easy. I liked theirs so much, I got a pint of it after the sampler. It was a fun time.
That ended our daytrip, three stops, but I couldn't come up with which was my favorite, which I consider to be a good thing. An hour 20 minutes away if you're curious.
Have a good one.
K.C.ya!
