Watch Robert Plant Rip Through "Whole Lotta Love," New Songs

Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant recently played a set of new and classic material for the BBC's Later...With Jools Holland on 6 Music Live.

In the video above you can see Plant and his band, the Sensational Shape Shifters, play a faithful-to-the-original version of "Whole Lotta Love." Below you can watch them play two songs from Plant's new album, Carry Fire, available October 13.

Plant announced the reflective new album in August, giving due credit to his band.

“I respect and relish my past works, but each time I feel the incentive to create new work, I must mix old with new,” he said at the time. “Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat—the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.”

Plant's solo career has been marked by forays into folk and world music territory with re-imaginings of classic Led Zeppelin songs.

The new songs, "New World" and "Bones of Saints," seem to come from more traditional rock and roll conventions and then wander into uncharted territory.
