Bono Dives Deep Into U2 Music In Upcoming Memoir

U2 frontman Bono has announced an autobiography that will tell his life's story through the lens of his music.

Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story will arrive November 1. The title is a reference to the book's 40 chapters, each of which is named for a U2 song. Bono says his music has often come from his real-life experiences; the book will connect those dots in a way that he's never done before.

"Surrender is the story of one pilgrim's lack of progress ... With a fair amount of fun along the way," Bono said in a statement. "When I started to write this book, I was hoping to draw in detail what I'd previously only sketched in songs. The people, places, and possibilities in my life. Surrender is a word freighted with meaning for me."

Born Paul Hewson, Bono grew up in Ireland during a period of war and political turmoil. He was drawn to activism as a teen and continued with various humanitarian causes as one of the world's most prominent figures in popular music.

Just last weekend, Bono and The Edge performed a private concert at a Kyiv bomb shelter at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
