Just a matter of weeks before he puts 120 guitars from his collection up for auction in a massive charity benefit, David Gilmour is releasing three podcasts featuring conversations surrounding the instruments.
The guitar legend and Pink Floyd icon Gilmour is selling some of the most consequential instruments in the history of rock music, including his fabled black Fender Stratocaster, which can be heard on just about every Pink Floyd album from the '70s.
The David Gilmour Podcast will feature brand new, exclusive interviews with Gilmour over three episodes in which he details the stories of three of the most prized instruments from his collection. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will describe the roles the guitars had in shaping his sound and the Pink Floyd catalog over the years.
All the proceeds from the Gilmour Guitars auction with Christie's in New York City will benefit various charities with which Gilmour has worked over the years. You can get more information about the instruments here and about the charities that stand to benefit here.
Gilmour said earlier this year that he's been considering a massive selloff of his instruments for close to 30 years, but decided now was finally the time to follow through.
He clarified that the auction should not be interpreted by fans as a precursor to his retirement. While he has no plans to retire, he admits 120 guitars is more than he has time to enjoy. When all is said and done, Gilmour estimates he'll have about 20 guitars to write, record and tour with.
The general public can check out the Gilmour collection from June 14 - 19 at Christie's New York. The auction itself will take place June 20.
